Capoeira is the Brazilian Martial Art combining rhythm, movement, music, history and culture. Our group, Moringa de Barro holds classes for youth age 6+ and adults in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. We practice Capoeira Regional (fast-paced) although the Angola style of Capoeira (slower-paced) is also incorporated into classes. Our Mestre, Mestre Pitta (Daniel Nery dos Santos) hails directly from Salvador, Brazil where Capoeira was born. Classes are dynamic and engaging for all levels and age groups. Students enhance their technique, strength and endurance by training individually, in pairs and in groups. Mestre Pitta believes Capoeira teaches us how to live more peacefully by learning to respect ourselves, each other and cultures throughout the world. All classes held at Balance Studio.

Students learn to work individually as well as in pairs and groups.
Children also learn about the essential music and instruments of Capoeira by clapping, singing, and learning how to play and recognize the sounds of the Pandeiro, A-go-go, Atabaque and Berimbau.
The class is taught in Portuguese and English.
**Capoeira is played without shoes or socks in class but sneakers can be worn if your child cannot exercise barefoot.**

Learn the unique movements, technique, history and music of Capoeira Regional as you gain physical and aerobic conditioning through exercises targeting strength, stamina, reflexes, speed, flexibility and balance. Your skill will build from the basic ginga step and advance with emphasis on technique and style. Students work individually, as well as with partners and in groups. You’ll also learn the history of Capoeira Regional and its founder, Mestre Bimba. In addition to the rhythms and songs of Capoeira, you will learn to recognize and play the instruments integral to Capoeira: Pandeiro, A-go-go, Atabaque (ah-tah-bah-ki) and Berimbau. Classes gradually combine all elements of song, music, and movement as students learn to play in a roda (circle) with others.
The class is taught in Portuguese as well as in English.
**Please wear long work-out pants, as well as a comfortable t-shirt or tank top. Capoeira is done barefoot. Please let us know if you have any difficulty doing exercise without shoes.**
