10-Year Anniversary Celebration: Island Hop with Joanna Roth
November 12 @ 12:30 pm - 1:10 pmFree
Dance fitness with Dancehall, Hula and Latin influences. Work out in a friendly, inclusive environment. Emphasis on balance, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility. You don’t have to be a dancer to dance. Sharing dance as a community is joyful and freeing, and is our shared birthright.
Fast-paced, sixty-minute workout with upbeat songs from a variety of cultures and rhythms. Try out new rhythms while touring islands through their music and moves.
Baffled by a move? Make the dance experience your own. How does the move feel? What if you focus only on the feet? The workout is for you, and every day is different. Having recovered from significant knee injury, Joanna welcomes you to modify as needed. Can’t dance on your feet yet? We’ll put a chair in the back for you.
Joanna’s wish is for every student to discover their inner dancer. She dances when she is sad, when she is happy and everything in between. She creates her choreographies based on whatever is happening in her world: political events, social justice concerns, even pandemic weight gain (btw, it’s very sensual!).
Her mother began teaching her hula at age three, and she has recently resumed study of hula. Joanna fell in love with dancehall several years ago, and has been able to study remotely in the pandemic.
