Best, Aileen and Contra-Mestre Pitta (Daniel) Bahia in Motion invites you to join us on our journey to Brazil in January, 2010. Explore the beauty of Afro-Brazilian culture with a personal touch as we experience the pulsing energy of Salvador and the exquisite beauty of Bahia’s national parks and coastline. The trip offers a unique window into the enchanting culture of Bahia--rich in African traditions, music and dance. Below is a brief outline of the trip (subject to change): January 8th: Leave Seattle January 9th: Arrive Salvador, Bahia January 9th-14th: Explore Salvador January 15th-18th: Chapada Diamantina: Lencois and Capao January 19th : Return to Salvador January 20th-24th: Journey to the Coast January 25th: Return to Seattle January 26th: Arrive Seattle SALVADOR The first 5-6 days will be spent in Salvador, exploring the city and some of the outlying areas. We'll stay in the region of Barra, close to the beach about a 10-15 minute taxi and bus ride to the historical part of town: Pelourinho. Pelourinho is filled with restaurants, shops, cafe's, museums, dance and music! It's colorful buildings invoke the joy inherent to so many Brazilian people. We’ll also have a chance to experience one of the most beautiful festivals of Salvador, the Lavagem do Bom Fim. Other events include:
Here is a link to a recent NY Times article highlighting Salvador. http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/03/01/travel/01hourscol.html CHAPADA DIAMANTINA After Salvador, we'll travel to Chapada Diamantina, a beautiful National Park about 6 hours west of Salvador filled with mountains, waterfalls and tranquility. Some liken it to “Jurassic Park.” Our first stop in the park will be Lencois, a lovely, quiet and charming town. We'll then visit the small town of Capao, where Brazil's highest waterfall lies. Capao is full of peace and the wonders of nature. We'll explore more of the natural beauty there, browse the day and evening markets, hike local trails, and offer a few dance and percussion classes as well for those interested. Relax, soak in the sun and delight in the calm and soothing pace of native culture. The trip’s price will include all accommodations and breakfasts, transportation within Brazil (except taxis and local bus rides in Salvador), some meals, and tickets to events in Salvador.
