CAPOEIRA FOR YOUTH Instructor: Mestre Pitta Co-teacher: Aileen Panke
of Capoeira. In this creative and fun class, children learn elements of Afro-Brazilian culture through martial art, music, dance, song and storytelling. Basic movements and rhythms of Capoeira Regional are taught through exercises and games that help improve flexibility, agility, reflexes, balance, concentration and gross motor coordination. As ability improves, confidence grows, promoting self-esteem. Children learn to work individually as well as in pairs and groups. Parents’ participation is welcome! Children also learn about the essential music and instruments of Capoeira by clapping, singing, and learning how to play and recognize the sounds of the Pandeiro, A-go-go, Atabaque and Berimbau! The stories of Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian culture are woven into its songs and rhythms, allowing creative physical and verbal expression. The class is taught in Portuguese and English, enhancing language and communication skills. Venha! Join us!! **Please have your child wear long work-out pants and a comfortable t-shirt during class. Capoeira is played without shoes or socks in class.** Parental guidance throughout class is required for children 4 and 5 years of age. Thank you! |
